The complete blood count (CBC) is a very useful screening test, which experts recommend should be done annually. It allows physicians to diagnose numerous conditions such as problems with clotting, iron or other vitamin and mineral deficiencies, heart disease, allergies, autoimmune disorders, bone marrow issues, cancer, infection or inflammation, and reaction to medication. All or parts of the CBC are often a part of a patient’s preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative assessments.
