Diagnosis

A troponin test measures the level of troponin in your blood. Troponin is a type of protein found in the muscles of your heart, and it isn't normally found in the blood. When heart muscles become damaged, troponin is sent into the bloodstream. High levels of troponin in the blood may mean you are having or recently had a heart attack.

Prognosis

The most important behavioural risk factors of heart disease to control are unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use and harmful use of alcohol. Cessation of tobacco use, reduction of salt in the diet, eating more fruit and vegetables, regular physical activity and avoiding harmful use of alcohol have been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
